The Oxford History of the Ancient Near East
Die von der Oxford University Press herausgegebene Oxford History of the Ancient Near East, die als Nachfolgerin der ehrwürdigen, aber leider veralteten Bände der Cambridge Ancient History gedacht ist, strebt eine umfassende, vergleichende und integrative Geschichtsschreibung der Politien Westasiens und Ägyptens von der Vorgeschichte bis zu den Eroberungen Alexanders des Großen an. Die fünf Bände sind das Werk einer vielfältigen Gruppe internationaler und international anerkannter Wissenschaftler. Sie werden von Karen Radner (LMU München), Nadine Moeller (Yale) und Dan Potts (NYU) herausgegeben und stellen in 65 Kapiteln die neuesten epigraphischen und archäologischen Entdeckungen in einer Art und Weise vor, die sie sowohl für Studierende als auch für Fachleute nützlich macht.
Die Planung und Herausgabe der Reihe wurde vom Center for Advanced Studies der LMU durch Stipendien für Nadine Moeller und Dan Potts in den Jahren 2016, 2017 und 2018 maßgeblich unterstützt. Die Herausgabe der Oxford History of the Ancient Near East beschäftigte auch eine Reihe von Karen Radners Kollegen und Studenten an der LMU: Denise Bolton redigierte viele der Kapitel sprachlich, Thomas Seidler überprüfte und harmonisierte die Bibliographien, Philip Seyr vereinheitlichte die ägyptischen Schreibweisen und Andrea Squitieri erstellte die Kartographie für alle Kapitel. Das Manuskript des letzten Bandes wurde im November 2021 bei Oxford University Press eingereicht, der im April 2023 erschienen ist.
